Moses S. Haynes and his wife E. Prob. Elizabeth Unknown. probaby
probably had more children than are listed here. The information here
came from the Georgia Census in Merriweather County in 1850. The gap
in ages of the children denotes there were more.
Moses Haynes father of Moses S. Haynes migrated from Culpeper County,
VA after the Revolution. He recived land in Union County, SC in the
96th District in 1784. His family was on the roll of Padgetts Creek
Baptist Church. In 1791 they moved to Elbert County, GA and setteled
near Bowman, GA close to the big Holly Springs. He is burried in the
cemetery of the Holly Springs Baptist Church. The Georgia DAR placed
a marker there in 1933.
Moses had a store there and he and his son Thomas were Justices of
Peace. They also had a license to sell spiritious liquor! A ledger
book from the store has survived and is in the custody of a descendan.
